Pre-Dance III
The purpose of my Pre-Dance III class is to introduce the young dancer to various basic dance steps, rhythms, basic tumbling, balance beam, circle activities, and movements across the floor. This program will also begin the discipline and attention needed to study dance for many years to come. This class is designed for 3-year olds and potty trained.
Combination Class
These students must be 4 years old by September 1st of the current calendar year. These students have 30 minutes of tap and 30 minutes of ballet in each class. This introduces the student to different kinds of dance and helps the student to become a well-rounded dancer. To receive maximum benefit, the student should continue with his training for five years before deciding to take a single form of dance. This class also develops the student’s mind, requiring the student to remember several steps and body moves at the same time. During this one-hour class, the students learn many rhythms, right and left exercises, basic ballet techniques, tap steps and moves.
Ballet
This is the most difficult dance form. Ballet is very beautiful and graceful. Ballet training is most valuable for developing posture, poise and physical stamina. Students of ballet rarely go through an awkward physical stage. As they mature, ballet training leads students to graceful movements in almost everything including sports. My class is usually 30, 45, 60 minutes, depending upon the ability of the student.
Lyrical
Lyrical is a combination of Ballet technique, jazz moves, turns, leaps and music interpretation. Dancers must take at least 2 ballet classes each week, must be 11 years old and must be auditionned for placement in lyrical class.
Jazz
Jazz class time varies between 30 mins to 1 hour depending on class size. It is very popular among pre-teens and teenagers because it is usually done to popular music tunes. It is excellent for total stretching and toning up muscles. Classes include conditioning exercises, jazz techniques, across floor exercises and a jazz routine. Students must be either 8 years old or entering the third grade to begin taking the jazz class. I prefer that all jazz students take ballet class in addition, because ballet helps the student’s flexibility, a necessary component of jazz.
Tap
Tap dancing is very important for developing rhythm, timing and coordination. It is also very popular among students because it is very fast and exciting. Tap is good for helping students overcome self-consciousness and helps develop stage presence. This class incorporates barre exercises, center floor and across floor movements. Turns and leaps are taught after several years of tap study.
